18-year-old fatally shot by friend in Copiague: Police

A young man is charged with shooting and killing his friend inside his home on Great Neck Road in Copiague, according to authorities.

There is now a makeshift memorial of candles to honor the victim, 18-year-old Wilson Gil-Torres.

It happened Friday afternoon. Police said that 18-year-old Nefi Reyes was inside his home when he pointed a handgun at his friend, Gil-Torres. Reyes then fired his weapon and hit at Gil-Torres in the torso, police said.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

Police told FiOS1 News that someone called 911. Then, emergency crews rushed Gil-Torres to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Reyes is charged with second-degree manslaughter and is scheduled to be in court on Saturday.
