2 dead, 1 critical after Tuesday night crash in Northampton, police say

Zachary Powel and Christian Goody, both 20, were pronounced dead at the scene


Two young people are dead and another is rushed to the hospital following a bloody crash into the woods in an area Northampton on Tuesday night.

Southampton town police has confirmed that around 10 p.m. the driver identified as 20-year-old Zachary Powel of East Moriches was operating a 2004 Audi southbound on County Road 51 south of Speonk-Riverhead Road when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway and into a wooded area.

Powell and his passenger identified as 20-year-old Christian Goody of Shelter Island, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Eastport and East Moriches Fire Department worked on the extrication of 19-year-old Ashley Picozzi of St. James. She was air lifted to Stony Brook Hospital where she is listed in critical condition, according to authorities.
