Tuesday marks the 30th annual "Turkey Shoot" event at Oceanside High School. It's a day where members of the community and students come together to help the needy.

Baskets are filled with everything needed for a Thanksgiving feast from yams to stuffing, from corn to mashed potatoes and more, and of course, turkey.

An estimated 10,000 pounds of food filled the hallways of the school. The baskets, more than 250 of them, are ready to be delivered to residents in need of a little help.

Collecting the Thanksgiving items was a month-long effort and it was a joint one between students and members of the community.

The “Turkey Shoot” this year is the 30th annual one, and coordinated by Student Activities, headed up by Social Studies Teacher Pat Turk and Oceanside Community Service.

Nearly the entire student body of 1,900 students participated in the collection effort and more than 40 members of the community came to deliver food.
