Police say an Island Park woman overdosed on drugs, crashed her car into a storage unit and now faces additional charges for leaving her eight-year old son home alone when it happened.
Kristine Steele, 31, not only faces drug charges after police say they found her passed out behind the wheel with a stash of heroin, but is also being accused of child endangerment.
Long Beach police say Steele was held overnight after she drove down National Boulevard and slammed her car into a large white pod container on Wednesday morning.
When police and paramedics got to the scene, Steele was apparently unconscious and had to be revived with Narcan.
When searching her vehicle, police say they recovered two small envelopes containing heroin and a syringe. Her car is being held at the Long Beach Police Department.
Steele was rushed to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and treated for her injuries. She's being charged with multiple counts of unlicensed operation of a vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police reportedly added the child endangerment charge later on after they found Steele’s son at home by himself.
Steele is scheduled to be arraigned in Long Beach City Court Wednesday.
