Adelphi University fraternity brothers take on 12th annual 'Hungerfest' ahead of Super Bowl

The annual event sees members of the fraternity fast for 24 hours while raising money and collecting food before the big game

GARDEN CITY — For the twelfth year in a row, the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Adelphi University is collecting food and raising money for Island Harvest and also fasting for 24 hours leading up to the game as part of the frat's "Hungerfest" event.

"We fast to kind of emulate and have everyone experience hunger, because that's exactly what we're doing here. We're fighting hunger," said Matthew Dolan, vice president of the Kappa Sigma chapter at Adelphi University.

The fraternity says that in the last 12 years they've collected 20,000 pounds of food and raised over $10,000 for the food bank.
