Police say that several churches in North Amityville were victims of acts of what they are calling a hate crime this weekend. They can now add a fourth church to that list, the Prayer Tabernacle, which is also in the vicinity.

According to officials, someone, or a group of people, vandalized each of the churches sometime between the hours of 9:30 p.m. Friday night and 11 a.m. Saturday morning. It is unclear when the Prayer Tabernacle was vandalized, but the pastor says he didn't notice it until last night.

The graffiti was reportedly satanic in nature, and spray-painted onto each building. In addition to the prayer tabernacle, the group includes Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Zion Gospel Church, and Amityville Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Bishop William Walker, the pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle told FiOS1 News that someone spray painted 'Hail Satan' on the front of the church, and a pentagram on the doors, and that many members of the church came out to clean up the mess.

"And we just decided that we weren't going to let evil stand and we completely cleaned it, scrubbed the walls, sanded the doors, and repainted them. Because at the end of the day we're not going to glorify the evil… the darkness that's in people's lives."

The four churches, randomly targeted, are all within a mile of each other. The churches were not surprised, but not rattled either, according to Walter Willie, pastor of Prayer Tabernacle:

"And whoever did this out there, you know, I feel bad for you because to do something like this you’re hurting yourself, because the church is here to help out people. So our job is to pray for the person that did this, and hope that the Lord will forgive him for doing this heinous act."

Parishioners who arrived for services today, like Joseph Willie, are understandable upset. "I'm just really, really stunned right now. It's very, very disrespectful,” said Willie. “This is the house of god. So we've got to come together and figure this out and take it from there."

Pastor Willie says the church actually just installed new cameras so he hopes that the footage can be of use to detectives in identifying whoever committed the crime.
