Assault at Levittown home leaves 83-year-old woman dead, 1 injured

Nassau officials say grandmother, grandson found with multiple lacerations


LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Police are investigating an assault at a home on Long Island that left an elderly woman dead and her 24-year-old grandson in serious condition.

Nassau County police say officers found the victims while responding to a 911 call of an assault at the Levittown home on North Newbridge Road just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say the victims were attacked by an assailant using "a large cutting instrument."

The 83-year-old woman had multiple lacerations to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The grandson was treated for cuts to both arms and was hospitalized in serious condition. Their identities have not been released.

Police were interviewing a "person of interest." No other information was provided by police.
