Police say a Lindenhurst man is under arrest for allegedly driving drunk and causing an accident that killed a woman in Huntington Station on Sunday night.

Firefighters rushed Route 110 and Jericho Turnpike to pull three people from an SUV after the crash but it was too late for the woman, identified as 56-year-old Karen Holden of Huntington Station.

Police say 34-year-old Ryan Gurecki was driving drunk in his Ford Explorer around 9:30 p.m., when he rear ended a Ford Escape. That SUV was at a red light waiting turn left onto Route 110.

Her husband, identified by police as William Holden, suffered a head injury and their son, Robert, suffered a back injury, according to detectives. Both victims are expected to survive. Firefighters had to cut through the twisted metal in order to rescue them.

Police say a third vehicle was sideswiped by Gurecki but the driver of the third car was not hurt. The road was cleared just before the morning rush hour.

Gurecki was charged with driving while intoxicated and was arraigned today in Central Islip.
