New details are emerging about a deadly accident that happened early Thursday morning on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 41 in Jericho.

Detectives say a man driving eastbound on the LIE struck the median in the HOV lane. According to witnesses and police, he stopped the car in the HOV lane, got out, and tried to tie up a broken bumper when a Ford truck struck him and his car, sending both into the left lanes of the highway.

A third vehicle then struck the man and dragged his body about a half mile down the road, according to Nassau Police Lt. Richard Lebrun.

"It was very interesting and very complex crime scene at this point,” he said.

Lebrun says the driver of the vehicle who dragged the man is not facing charges at this time. However, it's a different story for the driver of the Ford truck. He may be facing charges related to DWI, according to the lieutenant.

The investigation is ongoing.
