A Long Beach man has been arrested for allegedly pushing his wife toward a boiling deep fryer, causing her to sustain second-degree burns to her hands.

Police say 39-year-old Xiuling Xiao of Massachusetts Avenue got into an argument with his wife on Sunday night at the Oceanside Chinese food restaurant that he owns. The argument lead Xiao to grab his wife by the back of the hair and push her towards a boiling deep fryer, causing both of her hands to become immersed in boiling oil.

She was transported to a local hospital and treated for second-degree burns to her hands.

The victim's two children, ages 12 and 14, were present during the incident, according to detectives.

Xiao's arraignment took place Monday morning in First District court. He faces assault charges, as well as two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
