HEMPSTEAD — Police say an officer was partially run over and dragged by a driver after a traffic stop at a Gulf station in Hempstead.

Nassau officials say Dwayne Henderson sped off after being pulled over. He was later seen in Uniondale exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot. Officers attempted to place him under arrest, but the 21-year-old resisted.

Upon further investigation, police found a clear bag with a substance in it that appeared to be crack cocaine.

Henderson faces several charges, including assault in the second-degree and reckless endangerment in the first-degree.

Police say the officer suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital and later released.
