August is National immunization Awareness Month

NEW HYDE PARK — August is National Immunization Awareness month, and officials in Nassau County are using it to remind residents to make sure vaccinations are on their "back to school" lists this year.

There are several vaccines that are not required for children to go to schools, but are recommended by health experts.

"There's Hepatitis B, that's given to newborns, but there's also Hepatitis A, which can cause serious problems and liver disease," said Dr. Henry Bernstein, a pediatrician at Cohen Children's Medical Center.

If you have any questions about immunizations, you can call the Nassau County Department of Health Immunization Hotline at 516-227-9416.
