FiOS1 and the Journal News look at how families of drug addicts are taking the battle against addiction public

Four years ago, Peter Ballesty lost his life to a heroin overdose. Now, his parents are publicly sharing their son's story by launching an unprecedented awareness campaign to help erase the stigma for those who have succumbed to addiction.

"Dianne felt this way and so did I, that we should be open about the way he died," said Pete Ballesty, Peter's father.

Now, thanks to help from the Journal News, conducting a search on the online obituary database Legacy.com produces 145 hits mentioning "addiction" in obituaries in New York.

FiOS1's Ray Raimundi takes a look at how families and groups in the Hudson Valley are being more open than ever about the wages of drug addiciton, and how they are looking to reverse the tide.
