A Levittown man pleaded guilty in court Friday to beating his dog with a shovel in 2016.

Michael Gallagher, 57, said nothing when FiOS1 News confronted him walking to his home.

Neighbors FiOS1 News spoke with off camera say it was in the middle of a street where they saw the man viciously beating the dog.

According to the district attorney, Gallagher put his 11-year-old dog “Bella” a German shepherd mix, in a bag and was striking the dog in the head with a metal shovel. The DA also says he put a zip tie around the dog’s neck and neighbors called the police. The beating was severe that the dog had to be euthanized.

Gallagher, faces two years in prison for aggravated cruelty to animals.

He is due back in court for sentencing on Nov. 20.
