Search for suspects in attempted kidnapping in Mineola

8-year-old girls scream, kick kidnappers making them run away


MINEOLA – The search is on in Mineola for two men who police went up to two 8-year-old girls Tuesday as part of an attempted kidnapping. Detectives said around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon two men approached the girls, who were playing in the yard of a home on Maple Place. One of the men allegedly pushed one of the girls to the ground and struck her in the face causing minor pain. Detectives said that girl was able to scream and kick the man who attacked her, causing both men to flee the scene. Police said the other girl was able to run away and suffered no injuries.

To protect the identity of the victims Nassau county police are not the revealing exact address of the home where that attempted kidnapping took place.

Police said one of the men fled in a dark-colored vehicle, while the other fled on foot in an unknown direction. Both men are described as having dark skin and beards, wearing yellow pants and blue shirts.

Police said the victims were able to alert their parents, who called 911.
