LIRR slowly returns to normal after nor'easter batters region

Friday's storm left service suspended on several lines, including West Hempstead, Great Neck and Port Washington branches

MINEOLA — Friday's nor'easter took a toll on the Long Island Rail Road, disrupting service by sending utility poles and trees onto the tracks and downing power lines.

Service was suspended on several lines, including the West Hempstead branch, as well as Port Washington and Great Neck. The Oyster Bay branch recently restored service after removing a tree on the tracks near Locust Valley.
