CENTRAL ISLIP — Two alleged MS-13 members from Brentwood were arraigned in federal court Monday. One of them is charged with murder and the other is accused of attempting to murder rival gang members.

Twenty-one-year-old Nelson Argueto Quintanilla, charged in connection with the death of Oscar Acosta, faces the death penalty if convicted.

These arraignments are part of a now 73-count indictment, an indictment that also includes defendants charged in connection with the murders of Brentwood teens Nisa Mickens and Kayla Cuevas and the murders of the of four young men found in a Central Islip Park. In total, the indictment includes 15 murders that prosecutors say were the work of MS-13, a gang known for brutal tactics like its use of machetes. The new defendants face charges including murder, arson, and drug trafficking.

Last week, when the seven new defendants — in this case — were brought before a judge, not all of them had attorneys present, which is why two were arraigned Monday.

In addition to the murder of Oscar Acosta, the indictment includes charges in connection with the deaths of Iavier Castillo and Dewann Stacks.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty.
