GARDEN CITY — An organization on Long Island is teaching people the meaning of ethics during a current, pressing political climate. The Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island was founded in 1950 with roots tracing back to the late 1800s. The organization tackles a wide range of social justice issues, including women's and civil rights, fair housing, and even prison reform.

Westchester native and newly-appointed leader of the Ethical Humanist Society Dr. Richard Koral says that society faces a lot of ethical issues in the modern day and age.

"I would say honesty is a really important issue that we are being confronted with today, respect for the individual, respect for each other. There is always something we are challenged on," says Koral.

The Humanist Society of Long Island reaches out to the community on a regular basis, hosting clothing and food drives all year long. The center provides philosophical perspectives and guidance as an alternative to or in addition to religious institutions.

Dr. Koral will deliver his inaugural address on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Garden City meeting hall.
