Nassau PD: 14 arrested in pot, prescription drugs distribution ring in Bellmore area

Investigators say a couple that manufactured THC out of their family home was among those arrested

NORTH BELLMORE — Nassau County police arrested 14 people who say were involved in selling and possessing controlled substances from marijuana to oxycodone in the Bellmore area. They are facing a slew of charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy. A doctor was also among the arrested,

“Doctor Ernest Lopez, Dr. Lopez wrote over 8,000 oxycodone prescriptions to people that obviously did not legally obtain them,” said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder.

“Everyone who is arrested here had some part in the redistribution of those prescriptions and drugs,” said District Attorney Madeline Singas.

A couple was also among the 14 arrested, who police say were manufacturing drugs like THC oil out of their family home where their children also resided. Police executed a search warrant and recovered not only the THC oil but also syringes, scales, assorted chemicals and compounds, glass jars, vape pens and more

“They lived there with their 11-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter. It was there that they were making concentrated cannabis, which is liquid marijuana. They would take the liquid marijuana, they would squeeze it out — the oils of the marijuana — creating the liquid, put it into forms of like a needle as you see here. They take that needle, put it into a bigger syringe ... [A]nd the scary part is they’d inject it into your vape pipes that your kids are smoking out there today and also put into gummy bears,” Commissioner Ryder said.

The investigation is ongoing.
