Anonymous mailers urging Nassau County to vote for Earlene Hooper cause controversy

Fliers read: ‘There will be no black leaders in Freeport without Hooper, the white devil will not fool us any longer’

GARDEN CITY – Anonymous controversial mailers have been sent out to Nassau County residents before Thursday’s democratic primary. The mailer urges residents to vote for Deputy Speaker Earlene Hooper, who is a 30-year incumbent, and read: "there will be no black leaders in Freeport without Hooper, the white devil will not fool us any longer.”
Kevan Abrahams, a Nassau county legislator, is also named on the letter and is accused of being a 'slave boss' to Jay Jacobs, the Nassau county democratic chairman.
“To insinuate that myself or anyone else running for office is a slave is an insult to the people of our ancestors that truly were slaves,” Abrahams said.

Also named on the flyer is Taylor Raynor, who is challenging Hooper for her seat in Thursday’s democratic primary.
“We have real issues to focus on, school districts are failing, our roads are a mess, we have people who are really in need,” Raynor said.

Earlier in the week, residents received at least two other letters targeting Taylor Raynor. The fliers claimed she isn't a democrat, and to not be fooled by this "loose jezebel".

The letter contains various spelling and grammatical errors, and while the mailer doesn't mention who sent it, some are claiming Hooper is involved in sending it out.

“The most vile disgraceful piece and elected official sent out,” Abrahams said.
