Flood waters recede after inundating Suffolk streets for days

South Shore residents sweep away leftover standing water

LINDENHURST — Residents in Lindenhurst are breathing a sigh of relief as flood waters dumped onto their streets from Wednesday’s storm begins to recede. Several inches of water on Surf Street that accumulated over the week finally dried up on Thursday after flooding the neighborhood for days. Many residents parked their car at Shore Road Park to protect their vehicles from the rising tides.

In some streets of Lindenhurst, residents say their blocks were flooded for nearly a week since the nor'easter last Friday.

While people who live here say they are used to the water coming up the streets, many felt that high tide lingered on their blocks for much longer than usual.
