Former Oyster Bay deputy town attorney testifies in Mangano trial

Frederick May says that Harendra Singh was a friend who ‘treated people like VIPs’

CENTRAL ISLIP — Government witness Frederick Mei, the former Oyster Bay deputy town attorney, testified on Monday in the trial of former Supervisor John Venditto and former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. In regards to “the Town of Oyster Bay Way,” Mei said, “It’s a phrase used to discuss the pay to play nature [of the town].” He admitted to accepting bribes and pleaded guilty to that, as FiOS1 News previously reported.

Mei also testified that Harendra Singh was a friend, saying, “He was buying meals, he was buying gifts. He treated people like VIPs, and, in turn, people treated him like a VIP.”

Much of Mei’s involvement focused on helping Singh secure money. At one point during his testimony, Mei mentioned that Singh said Venditto told him, regarding capital improvements, “Feel free, make it a Disney World if you want.”
