HEMPSTEAD — Police have made an arrest in a violent stabbing earlier this month that left one man dead. Roy Christmas, 36, who goes by the alias "Skee," was arraigned at First District Court on Main Street Tuesday on charges of second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty to those accusations and is being held without bail.

"We've been looking for Mr. Christmas for several weeks now. Last night, he turned himself in at his attorney's office," said Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Homicide Squad.

Christmas turned himself in about two weeks after he allegedly stabbed to death 57-year-old William Pinckney of Freeport. Detectives say the stabbing stemmed from an argument inside a house on Warner Avenue in the middle of the night back on May 1.

"Roy Christmas had a fight with his sister over money that was owed to him. During that fight, Roy punched his sister in the face. His sister's boyfriend, Mr. Pinckney, then interceded on her behalf," Det. Lt. Fitzpatrick said.

The argument spilled into the backyard, and that's when police say Christmas stabbed Pinckney multiple times with a knife. Pinckney was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center after the incident and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detectives say Christmas has a violent history with several orders of protection against him and multiple family offenses.

He's due back in court on Thursday.
