Sal Miccio tallied the game winning with 2:04 left in the third overtime to send the ninth-seeded Northport Tigers (9-8) to the Suffolk Class A Quarterfinals in a 9-8 win over the eighth-seeded Smithtown East Bulls (8-9) in a Suffolk Class A First Round game that was halted after 3 quarters yesterday due to severe weather at Smithtown High School East in St. James, New York. The winning goal occurred following a turnover at midfield by Smithtown East, which led to an unsettled situation. Northport senior goalie Lucas Alper came up huge in overtime, making one big save and intercepting a pass near his cage. Miccio led all scorers for the Tigers with 5 goals and 1 assist. Junior midfielder Max Napoli also contributed for Northport with 2 goals. Smithtown East was led by senior midfielder Christian Villani, who tallied 3 goals and 1 assist.

In a first meeting that Smithtown East won 8-5, both teams played a very tight contest and no team had more than a 2 goal lead in the game. Smithtown East took their first lead toward the end of the third quarter at 7-6 and went ahead 8-6 before Northport scored the game's last 3 goals.

Northport will play top-seeded and defending New York State Class A Champion Ward Melville in the Suffolk Class A Quarterfinals on Friday, May 18th at Ward Melville High School.
