Jury selection for Mangano, Venditto corruption case starts Monday

Former Nassau County executive has ‘good expectations’ for upcoming trial

CENTRAL ISLIP — The corruption trial of former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and former Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto is expected to get underway next week.

On Thursday, Mangano, his wife Linda, and Venditto all visited the federal courthouse in Central Islip to talk about several items that needed to be discussed before opening arguments this coming Tuesday.

The judge went over with the defense and the prosecutors scheduling issues because the United States just submitted 7,000 pages of text messages from Harendra Singh’s phone last night. That was not an issue and the judge ruled for the case to continue as scheduled.

They also discussed several potential jurors, some of whom were excused for reasons of child care, work conflict, or financial hardship.

All three pleaded not guilty to an alleged bribery scheme. Prosecutors say Singh provided kickbacks in exchange for loans for his business and Nassau County contracts.

Jury selection will begin on Monday.
