Local lawmakers furious over GOP tax plan

The tax plan could have a significant impact on tax deductions in suburban areas near New York City

NEW YORK — The Republican tax plan is drawing strong reactions from taxpayers and politicians in New York.

The plan could have a huge impact on tax deductions in suburban New York City areas. Gov. Mario Cuomo was critical of plan when he spoke to the media on Saturday.

"The ultimate hypocrisy and the ultimate fraud. They were going to help middle class and working families, this does the exact opposite," Cuomo said.

Sen. Charles Schumer tweeted out a statement, saying "In my long career in politics, I have not seen a more regressive piece of legislation, so devoid of rationale, so ill-suited for the condition of the country, so removed from the reality of what the American people need."

The bill now moves onto the House of Representatives. Republicans are confident the bill will be signed into law by President Trump by the end of December.
