Authorities say red pickup truck ran over Taranjit Parmar near Hempstead Turnpike

LEVITTOWN — Police say local 18-year-old resident Taranjit Parmar is dead after being hit by a red pickup truck in a parking lot off of Hempstead Turnpike near Gardiners Avenue Thursday evening.

Police say the teen was driving her Jeep east on Hempstead Turnpike around 5 p.m. when a driver in a red pickup truck traveling northbound out of a shopping center hit her.

Police say the two drivers pulled over in a parking lot near the Ultra Gas station. They say the teen got out of her car. But the driver of the red pickup took off, running her over and killing her.

Authorities say the driver of the pickup truck left the scene heading east on Hempstead Turnpike. First responders took the teen to the hospital with injuries to her head and chest where she died.

Police are asking the public for help in finding the driver of the pickup truck.

"Five o'clock on a Thursday on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown. That's bumper-to-bumper traffic. People saw this," said Nassau Police Det. Vincent Garcia

Police say anyone with information should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
