RONKONKOMA — Suffolk County police arrested a 14-year-old boy for vandalizing the memorial of a fallen U.S. Navy Seal officer, Lt. Michael P. Murphy, on Thursday. Dozens of friends, family members, police officers, firefighters, and local politicians gathered at Murphy's memorial to pay their respects to the fallen hero after the boy was arrested.

"Lt. Michael Murphy served our nation with extraordinary courage, valor, and dignity," said Gov. Andrew Cuomo's statement, "and we are indebted to him and his family for his sacrifice."

Murphy was a Patchogue native, Purple Heart Hero, and Medal of Honor recipient. He was killed in the line of duty in 2005 while stationed in Afghanistan. Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park was dedicated in his memory in May 2006.

The teen is being charged with second-degree criminal mischief and will later be arraigned in family court.
