CENTRAL ISLIP – Kareem Eppes, 24, who allegedly fled police by jumping into the Forge River was arraigned in the First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday. Eppes is charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer and obstructing governmental administration, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana.

Eppes would have only faced misdemeanor drug charges, however is now looking at even more charges after he sent police on a chase into the Forge River.

Seventh Precinct officers pulled Eppes over on Poospatuck Lane Tuesday because he had two outstanding warrants. As they walked up to his 2017 Lincoln, Eppes drove away down a dead end street before the jumping into the Forge River.

Detectives looked for Eppes for about 20 minutes, and located him about 100 yards off shore. Aviation officers lowered a life preserver to Eppes who was then taken to the Long Island Medical Center in East Patchogue before being treated, and released.
