Legislators demand for change in human rights laws for transgender people

'It's about time we wake up and become enlightened,' says lawmaker

MINEOLA — There has been a recent demand to update the current amendment to Nassau County's human rights laws to include providing protections for transgender residents be placed on the legislative agenda. Recently, minority caucus members have pushed to have the laws updated to include people who are transgender, but the proposals have been consistently denied.

Currently, Nassau County — the largest in the state — is the only county without anti-discrimination protections for transgender people.
