Nor’easter brings flood waters to Lindenhurst

Mayor Lavorata says people should get their cars to higher ground

LINDENHURST— In Long Island, this storm has just meant more misery. Some Lindenhurst residents have been unable to pull their cars out because of floodwaters that have filled the streets since last week's nor'easter. Some people who live in this area are forced to walk rather than drive because they cannot even get their cars down the block. The residents of Surf Street have had the block filled with water since the last nor’easter.

Officials say they are ready for this storm and if any resident is trapped in their home that the local fire departments are equipped with high-axle vehicles.

People are also being advised to keep a close watch on the rising water levels over the next several high-tide cycles.

"People should watch the tide charts. If you are in a flooded area, keep your car in your driveway or get it to higher land," Mayor Lavorata said.
