OYSTER BAY — Nassau County police say an 18-year-old man was assaulted by at least two men, possibly three, during a robbery at Theodore Roosevelt Park Wednesday night. The victim suffered swelling in his face and in his right eye.

It is not clear why the victim was in the park around 8:15 p.m., when it was dark. What detectives will say is that the young man had parked his car and was standing outside, leaning against his car when the men approached him and demanded money. One of the men grabbed the victim's wallet and took cash, a debit card, and a credit card before all of them ran away.

Police say the victim had to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and that he was not able to provide a description of the thieves.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-244-TIPS.
