Nassau police: Man and woman arrested in connection to 3 car break-ins

Dawn Goldstein and Richard Alvarez face charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property

ROCKVILLE CENTRE — Police nabbed a man and a woman who they believed were behind several car break-ins last week.

Nassau County police say in each of the three break-ins, the suspect smashed through a passenger window. One of the cars was parked in a rear lot just steps away from the Rockville Centre Police Dept. It's not clear if that victim dialed 911 or if she reported the break-in by walking over to the police department.

Officers arrested Dawn Goldstein of Elmont and Richard Alvarez of Valley Stream. Goldstein and Alvarez now face multiple charges including grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

For the incident on Maple Avenue, detectives say last Wednesday the victim parked her 2017 Hyundai Tucson in one of the rear parking spaces that serves a pilates center and dance center. When she returned to her car less than an hour later, police say the woman found that her rear passenger window had been shattered and that her wallet and pocket book had been stolen.

Detectives say a short time later, surveillance video captured the pair entering a CVS about a mile and a half away in Baldwin where detectives say they used one of the victim's credit cards.

Police say Goldstein was arraigned on Saturday. Alvarez was set to face a judge on Tuesday, but his court appearance has been delayed due to a medical emergency involving an unrelated injury for which he needed treatment.
