PD: Sudden death of student at Sachem HS East in Farmingville under investigation

Passing of 17-year-old girl comes 11 months after drill accident that killed school football player

FARMINGVILLE — A 17-year-old girl died at Stony Brook Hospital Tuesday after participating in what police say was a school authorized function at Sachem High School East Monday night.

The teen’s passing comes on the heels of the death of a football player at the school 11 months ago. That student and dozens of other players were taking part in a summer football camp on school grounds.

The student who passed away Tuesday morning was an incoming senior to Sachem North High School. The function at the school on Monday night was authorized, but police are not releasing any more details as of yet.

Sachem District Superintendent Kenneth Graham said that support services are available as of 8 a.m. at both Sachem East and Sachem North high schools.

FiOS1 News will have more details on this story as they come in.
