Long Islanders hold ‘Smart Growth Summit’ to strategize community progress

County leaders, over a thousand residents attend day-long conference

WOODBURY — More than a thousand people participated in Vision Long Island’s “Smart Growth Summit” on Friday. The all-day conference was held at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and soon-to-be Nassau Executive Laura Curran both spoke at the event.

Issues on the table included how to maintain the older population on Long Island so it’s affordable for them while also ensuring that there are opportunities for young people. The 1,300 attendees gathered at the summit to also discuss how to make Long Island a better place to live and work by revitalizing the downtown areas.
