LONG BEACH — Daring swimmers risked hypothermia in Long Beach Sunday, plunging into the Atlantic Ocean for the city's annual Polar Bear Splash.

Thrill-seeking men and women, wearing only their swimsuits, dove into the freezing cold waters to raise money for a good cause. Organizers say the Polar Bear Splash has raised more than $5.6 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation since the event's inception 18 years ago.

The event happens every year on Super Bowl Sunday.
