STONY BROOK – Feb. 26, 2018, was the first time the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team ever earned a No. 1 ranking in a national poll. Seven weeks later, the undefeated Seawolves are still on top and taking steps towards another first.

The thought of a national championship is more than realistic for Stony Brook. The undefeated Seawolves are the top team in the country, something no team in program history has ever said before.

Ironically, this year's national championship will be held at Stony Brook.

"Flattered that we're the No. 1 team in the country. At the end of the day, we understand that can all end in a hurry if we're not playing our best lacrosse," head coach Joe Spanilla said.

Stony Brook may now be considered the hunted with a No. 1 ranking, but the team continues to practice like an underdog.

"Being No. 1 in April and March, it’s great. But we need to keep doing what we're doing to be No. 1 at the end," lacrosse player Kylie Ohlmiller said.
