Security stepped up at 2 schools in William Floyd district after anonymous threat

Officials: Suffolk police will be on school grounds throughout day

MASTIC BEACH — Students arriving outside William Floyd High School Friday morning couldn't help but notice all the Suffolk County Police officers around school grounds.

The William Floyd School District said the heightened security was put in place after the district reported an anonymous threat. The threat targeted William Floyd High School and William Paca Middle School for an unspecified incident that would take place Friday.

In a post on the district's website, school officials said Suffolk County Police are taking the threats seriously. They added that officers would be present across the district Friday to provide support during arrival, dismissal and throughout the day.

And while the nature of the threat is not clear, district officials said for safety reasons, all schools in the district will be on lock-out during school hours.

As Suffolk County Police investigate the threats, the William Floyd School District said will be vigilant and follow all safety procedures to keep its students and staff safe.
