PD: Man, woman in their 50s struck by police patrol in Long Beach

Authorities say both victims are alert after ordeal and expected to make a full recovery

Two beachgoers were rushed to the hospital after they were struck by a veteran officer on patrol in Long Beach on Sunday. The Long Beach police officer was also taken to the hospital after reportedly suffered "trauma."

Long Beach police say the incident between a man and woman in their 50s and the veteran Long Beach police officer took place around 8 p.m. The department says while it's not clear yet that the victims were run over or struck, both victims were alert and are expected to make a full recovery.

At this time, the incident is under investigation. It is not clear if officer was driving an all-terrain vehicle or an SUV.
