Road Earned Top Ranking for Fourth Time Since 2008
An analysis from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign is ranking Hempstead Turnpike as the most dangerous highway for pedestrians for the fourth time since 2008. The study reveals that 32 people have been killed and more than 400 injured in accidents involving pedestrians along the 16-mile stretch of road in a five-year period. State officials say they are looking into measures to improve safety on the turnpike.
