Police: Rudy Santana Tried to Extort Money for Victim's Release
Police arrested a man accused of holding a 35-year-old woman for ransom at his Staten Island home. According to authorities, Rudy Santana attempted to extort money from the alleged captive's mother in exchange for her release. Investigators say the New Hyde Park mother twice sent $100 to Santana, but then notified police when he demanded $2,000. The victim met Santana in Manhattan and then accompanied him to his home, where he allegedly refused to let her leave the following day, officials said.
Santana is facing a number of charges, including grand larceny.
