MINEOLA – Nassau County's police unions are shifting their allegiance from the Republicans to the Democrats. According to an analysis of state campaign finance records done by Newsday, the three major police unions gave over $500,000 to Nassau Democrats but nothing to Republicans in 2011. Such support could give Democrats a boost as they look to regain control of the County Legislature in 2013.
