More Than 70 Officials Accepted Package To Help Rookies
Suffolk County senior police officers have accepted a volunteer early retirement package that will help save the jobs of new recruits. More than 70 officers accepted the incentive, officials say, even though only 38 were needed to keep the rookie class employed. According to reports, the package is part of a restructuring plan proposed by County Executive Steve Bellone to ensure new officers have a job when they graduate from the academy in July. A second class of nearly 50 trainees is expected to begin at the end of the year.
