MINEOLA — Three firefighters received Nassau County’s highest honor from County Executive Ed Mangano Wednesday night during a special ceremony. Anthony Mauro, John Waldron and Joe Canosa were awarded the Nassau County Fire Commission’s Gold Medal of Valor for their courage saving the lives of fellow firefighters while battling a house fire in New Hyde Park in February of 2011.

Five other firefighters from county departments received silver and bronze medals of valor for their help with the rescue.
