Shawn Mitchell Credited for Saving Alana Kiceina
Officials say a 10-year-old Mastic girl who choked on a tortilla chip Wednesday is alive thanks to the efforts of police and an unemployed construction worker from Ridge. Shawn Mitchell said he was passing by Alana Kiceina's home and saw the girl struggling. When Suffolk County police arrived on the scene, responding officers say they saw Mitchell performing CPR on the girl. Officials say Alana is under currently critical condition and on a ventilator being treated for pulmonary hemorrhage at Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital.
