Proposed Cuts Include Staff Furloughs, Closure of Offices
MINEOLA — Nassau Executive Ed Mangano announced the possibility of a $40 million budget cut Friday if Democrats do not vote on a bonding measure. Mangano said he needs three Democratic votes on the fiscal recovery plan, which would permit the county to borrow money to pay back taxpayers who are owed property tax refunds. Proposed cuts would include a furlough of nonessential employees, elimination of the red light camera fund and closure of all nonessential offices on Mondays.
However, Democrats argue that Mangano is asking them to authorize the bonding measure because his administration mismanaged $127 million in overtime and termination costs for county employee salaries.
