Local Business Owner Offers Meals and Shelter to Residents
HEMPSTEAD — The owner of Bedrock Bar and Grill, Chris Stasi, opened his establishment after hours Sunday night and offered food and shelter to more than a dozen people who were left displaced by the Father's Day fire. According to Stasi, many of the people affected by the fire are familiar faces in his restaurant and after finding them outside with nowhere to go, he opened up the kitchen and invited them inside. Stasi and his partner also delivered food to dozens more who were displaced by the fire and stationed at Hempstead High School.
Authorities say the fire apparently began in a stove on the second floor of the building and quickly spread. Police do not believe the fire was suspicious.
