HAPPAUGE — Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) presented veteran William Grimaldi with a Bronze Star for his unselfish bravery in World War II. During the war, Grimaldi, a corporal at the time, rescued several airmen out of the burning wreckage of an American bomber that had crashed in France. The recipient never mentioned the incident, but when the congressman heard about it, Israel took the initiative to ensure that Grimaldi received the recognition he was due.
