New York Restoration Project Plants 75 Trees at PS/MS 219
NEW YORK — As part of the New York Restoration Project's Free Tree Giveaways, 75 trees were planted at PS/MS 219 in Flushing, Queens. The school had previously lost approximately 20 of its mature trees to the 2010 area tornados. Principal Fred Wright said the faculty was distraught about the loss, but surprised to discover that the NYRP had already chosen the school to be a potential site for its tree initiative.
NYRP public events manager Jordan Dyniewski said the school seemed the obvious choice for their "Tree LC" workshops after having planted 20 apple trees. The workshop series came about because the NYRP recently began giving away fruit trees and they wanted to educate people on how to care for them and get the most bountiful produce each season.
