The New York Police Department officer from Long Island who authorities said was shot in both legs, Sgt. Craig Bier, was released from the hospital Friday. Authorities said the 15-year veteran was injured in Queens Wednesday night after he and his partner tried to stop a man who ran after the officers spotted him. When the officers began pursuit, officials said the suspect, John Thomas, opened fire with a Ruger 9mm handgun.

The NYPD has put up a $22,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Thomas.
